Local Journalism, Global Challenge
Reliable news and information has never been more important to the civic, economic, and literal health of our communities. Yet in too many places across North America, serious coverage of local issues is scarce or non-existent due to the crisis afflicting journalism's traditional business models, a lack of innovation across media, and, in some cases, actual intimidation of those seeking to inform the public.
Join Future Tense and Convergence Lab to hear from a number of journalists seeking to remedy the erosion of our information ecosystems in the United States and Mexico by fostering innovation in local journalism.

Is Your University Designed to Create a Better Future?
The global pandemic has amounted to a stress test of higher education, posing existential internal and external challenges to universities around the world. The internal challenge is about educating students, adapting rapidly to changing circumstances by deploying technology to offer high-quality instruction and conduct research in a number of different modalities. The external challenge revolves around a university’s broader responsibility to help its communities confront the pandemic and future problems. To meet these challenges, universities must be designed and redesigned for flexibility, inclusion, and accelerated innovation.
Join Future Tense and ASU’s Convergence Lab for a binational discussion of how Arizona State University and the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, one of Latin America's most innovative universities, have been addressing the challenge of COVID-19. Presidents Michael Crow and David Garza will compare notes on the lessons of 2020, and explore how universities can continue adapting their design and innovating to create a better future for all.

La Movilidad Urbana del Futuro/ Urban Mobility of the Future
This year has changed the way we move about our cities and communities, and what that movement means. While the shift to remote working has emptied metro cars, buses and highways of many daily commuters, people without the privilege to stay home face increased risks through their continued use public transportation, thus illuminating the divide between those who can better protect their health and that of their families and those who cannot.
As cities roll out and begin to implement their reopening plans, we find ourselves at a crucial moment to examine and rethink the inequality blueprinted into the roads, tunnels, sidewalks and bus stops of urban areas like Mexico City and Phoenix.
Join a binational discussion to consider the future of mobility in a pandemic- and climate change-battered world. The event will be held in English.
