New course launches alongside creation of ASU-Mexico Semiconductor Talent Network
Thousands of college students in Mexico will soon have access to Arizona State University’s free online course on microelectronics and nanoelectronics fundamentals, created by ASU’s Global Launch. This course is part of a binational partnership between ASU and Mexico to boost North American competitiveness and secure the global semiconductor supply chain. At a Dec. 10 event commemorating the collaboration, ASU President Michael Crow emphasized the importance of allies working together to lead in semiconductor research, development, and manufacturing, while Esteban Moctezuma Barragán, Mexico’s ambassador to the U.S., highlighted the partnership as a model for addressing integration challenges.
The initiative seeks to build a skilled workforce, supported by modern infrastructure and world-class education, to drive innovation and economic growth. With over 21,000 learners in Mexico already benefiting from the program and a goal to expand to hundreds of thousands, the partnership exemplifies the transformative potential of cross-border collaboration. Leaders such as Mexico’s Secretary of Education, Mario Delgado, and Crow envision Mexico becoming a central technological hub for North America, leveraging advanced research and education to create lasting impacts in the semiconductor industry and beyond.
