Lipid Production by Microalgae and Cyanobacteria Due to Changes in Growth Conditions (Monterrey Campus)

The Biotecnology Center FEMSA sent  a graduate student–Ms. Sara Paulina Cuellar-Bermudez–for a six-month visit to the Swette Center for Environmental Biotechnology (SCEB) to carry out an experimental study as part of the Center’s PhotoBioReactor Team. Working with SCEB team members, Ms. Cuellar carried out an extensive experimental study on how pH, CO2 delivery, and light intensity affected the lipid concentration and composition in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC6803. Her work was highly successful, leading to a chapter in her master's thesis, three journal publications, and a long-term partnership between SCEB and Monterrey Tech in the area of microalgae research.
