Global Consortium for Sustainability Outcomes - CapaCity: Building Capacity for Climate Resilience

ASU is part of the Global Consortium for Sustainability Outcomes (GCSO), a global network of universities dedicated to scaling sustainability solutions with like-minded partners around the world.

In year one, CapaCities built sustainability implementation capacity in city staff and leadership through trainings held in four cities across three countries. These trainings helped city leadership unpack complex urban issues, anticipate threats and opportunities, strengthen inter-departmental collaboration, as well as coordinate investments and policy options to advance urban sustainability. (For more information on year one, click here)

In year two, CapaCities will build on year one outcomes to develop higher level capacity, with a specific focus on climate resilience. Each of four participating cities (Tempe, Mexico City, Lüneburg, Karlsruhe) will be evaluated on its existing planning process or goal related to climate change, sustainability, or resilience. Each city will also be evaluated against partner cities on the resulting impacts of year one capacity building on its sustainability outcomes.

With the support of GCSO, research teams at Arizona State University, Portland State University, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, National Autonomous University of Mexico, and the Leuphana University Lüneburg will address the need for climate resilience and protection measures to be undertaken by city governments and develop the capacity of city administrations to implement such measures.
