Empowering Global Semiconductor Careers: ASU’s English Course Expands Across Mexico

Expanding Economic Opportunities with English

The English for the Semiconductor Industry course, developed by ASU, helps non-native English speakers gain essential language skills for careers in the global semiconductor industry. The self-paced online course introduces semiconductor terminology and seven modules tailored to various career paths, including design, manufacturing, safety, and supply chain. Since its launch, over 10,000 participants across Mexico have enrolled through partnerships with universities and regional governments, with 2,200 individuals completing the entire course. Notable partners include the Tecnológico Nacional de México System, Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, and Skyworks, whose employees have benefited from the specialized training.

Strengthening Cross-Border Collaboration

ASU’s efforts to expand semiconductor education go beyond Mexico. With support from the U.S. Department of State, ASU secured a two-year, $13.8 million grant through the CHIPS Act’s International Technology Security and Innovation Fund. This program aims to enhance semiconductor industry resilience by fostering collaboration among governments and companies in the Indo-Pacific and Americas. ASU President Michael Crow emphasized that strengthening the semiconductor sector in the Arizona-Mexico corridor will boost long-term economic opportunities, with plans to double course participation and expand partnerships in the coming year.
