Arizona - Sonora Interuniversity Alliance
Arizona State University (ASU), Universidad de Sonora (UNISON), Centro de Investigación en Alimentación y Desarrollo (CIAD), and El Colegio de Sonora (COLSON) established the Arizona-Sonora Interuniversity Alliance (ASI Alliance) in 2017 as an innovative platform to foster knowledge, innovation, and education focused on the Arizona-Sonora transborder region. This platform is aimed to support high impact research and education based on a transborder paradigm and collaboration. The Alliance has continued to grow with the recent incorporation of El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, Instituto Tecnológico de Sonora, the University of Arizona, and Nothern Arizona State University.
The Third Arizona-Sonora Colloquium was held in April 2019. The goal of the Arizona-Sonora Colloquium was to strengthen and broaden the partnership between Arizona and Sonora higher education institutions and leverage affinities and complementarities to align institutional priorities and actions toward the development of a knowledge-based economy and society in the region. The colloquium aims to reassert the commitment of universities and research institutions to the innovative and sustainable transformation of the Arizona-Sonora megaregion. The colloquium featured a roundtable of university’s presidents with Dr. Michael Crow (ASU) hosting Dr. Enrique Velázquez (UNISON), Dr. Juan Poom (COLSON), Dr. Alberto Hernández (COLEF), Dr. Pablo Wong (CIAD), Dr. Javier José Vales García (ITSON), Dr. Robert C. Robbins (UofA) and Dr. Rita Cheng (NAU).
